About
The Mixtape Project was an assignment based on the book Perks of Being a Wallflower; during this book the main character Charlie makes a mixtape with a specific theme for his friend Patrick to listen to. For this project, I got paired with Rachel Holmberg and our mixtape theme was nostalgia; we titled ours “Remember When…” and put songs that gave us specific memories from our childhood but most people in our generation would know as well. Some of these songs were Spirits by the Strumbellas, Gone Gone Gone by Phillip Phillips and Drive-By by Train.
21st Century Skills |
Pros and Cons |
The Mixtape Project used 21st Century Skills as many assignments do, but one I believe was used the most was Interpersonal Skills; Rachel and I have very opposing styles in music along with many different ideas of what we could have done with the project. We went through many different ideas and plans for what could have been done for a theme until we compromised and came up with what we have now, which was nostalgia.
I developed my Interpersonal skills by further learning that sometimes you can't do the exact things you would like and have to compromise to be able to agree. This project was also a good practice on agreeing how we would split up the work based on our skill sets while still keeping the amount of work even.

Many things went exceptionally well with this project; Rachel and I get along very well so I was very glad when I got partnered with her. We were both very respectful of each other and heard out each of our ideas for the assignment while still being practical and coming to a compromise. In the end, we both knew what we were good at and we split the work evenly so we could work on our skill sets all the while keeping a fluid stream of communication about the project whenever we saw each other so we didn't get confused as to what we were supposed to be doing.
The most difficult thing about completing this project was trying to find songs to go with the theme at the beginning. Rachel and I have very different ideas of nostalgia and we ended up having to compromise to get the project to a place we both were happy with.

What Could be Better |
Past and Future Learning |
There were many parts in this project that I would do differently. First and foremost, I would tweak the theme a bit so that instead of songs that most people knew I would do songs that were even closer to my heart than the ones I choose, such as Mayonnaise by the Foo Fighters or Drive by Incubus. My mother would always play rock songs in the car because of her large CD collection and I wanted to show that more as it was a large chunk of my childhood. Furthermore, I would make the covers for the mixtape more detailed; they were a bit messy because I was unable to find my painting supplies and I ended up having to use colored pencils. I also accidentally made a mistake by coloring crayon over pencil which made me unable to erase the extra writing under it.

This assignment relates to past things I have learned with working with others as well as learing to do a project neatly and nicely. Working well with others came into play when we had to pick out the title, theme, and songs as we both had to compromise and communicate to finish the project in time.
I could apply these skills to future learning if I have another group project where we don't have agreeing ideas and still need to figure out a way to work well together. I could apply this in almost any job as you work and compromise with others in most jobs that you go into. I could also apply these skills to any social aspect of daily life as you will never agree on everything.
