About
The Expert Presentations were slideshows we had to create where we teach the class a skill that we are prevalent in. The skill I did was the baisics of operating a sewing machine. I went through everything from the parts, warnings and precautions, bobbins, and basic stitches. Sewing is something I am very passionate about and have been doing off and on for years.
21st Century Skills |
Pros and Cons |
The main 21st Century Skill the Expert Presentations use is Self Directional Skills. The whole presentation is based upon a skill that is unique to us that we went and learned on our own. Being self directional involves learning and completing things on your own, which this exhibits.
Through this presentation I learned how passionate I am about this subject. I thought it was a small hobby of mine until I actually did the presentation. I ended up losing track of time and talking for 35 minutes.

I am proud of how much knowledge I know about this subject. I never realized how many different aspects go into sewing until I started talking about it. I also loved how neat and cute the slides ended up being.
The most difficult part of this project was figuring out what to put in the slideshow. There are so many different aspects of sewing machines and trying to narrow that down and compress it while making sure the information is still useful is difficult.

What Could be Better |
Past and Future Learning |
The slideshow and how it was organized was great, the only issue was I talked too much. As passionate as I am about this subject I have to remember many people aren't as interested and I have to keep it short. Taking for 35 minutes straight not only cost me points on the project but also cost me my audiances attention.

The expert presentations project built upon all of the past times that I taught myself how to sew. From first teaching myself handsewing to my first time using a machine, it all helped to build my presentation.
This project helped me learn how to explain things to people better. Being concise is hard for me as I tend to jump around from topic to topic and this will help me in the future if I ever am teaching something to someone again.
